Taiko Drum Soundbath w/ aoi Taiko & Maile (RVA)
Taiko drumming & crystal singing bowl "activation of the fire horse" soundbath— Friday, february 6th at 6:30pm et
$33, $44, $55 sliding scale
For thousands of years, taiko has echoed through temples and Shinto shrines in Japan, played to bless the land, invite harmony, and gather people through rhythm and vibration. Its voice carries a strong earth-element frequency—often felt not just in the ears, but in the body—like the steady heartbeat of Mother Earth, gently calling us home to ourselves. This Sound Bath is an invitation to welcome the Lunar New Year in resonance with the Year of the Fire Horse—a cycle of freedom, passion, courage, and forward motion. Through grounding rhythms and sound, we create a energy to soften old patterns, awaken inner fire, and step into what is ready to be born. This Taiko Drum & Singing Bowl Soundbath will be woven together forming an activating soundscape—a living portal of vibration.
Maile (they/she) will use Crystal Tones® Alchemy singing bowls, chimes, drums and other instruments to build a soundscape alongside aoi.Taiko with the intention to provide a space that encourages a mindful and meditative presence for all. Sound vibrations will flow throughout the space moving different energies throughout the room to bring peace to the physical body, clear what is no longer needed, and open a new chapter from within. There will be a full hour of sound and time to integrate and connect as a group before and after.
Wear comfortable clothes and bring water to hydrate after. If you are attending in-person, everything you need will be provided for you (mats to lie on, blankets, and eye covers). If you are joining us virtually, we recommend using headphones for the best experience.
Soundbaths are offered both in-person in Richmond VA and virtually on Zoom. We have space for a limited number of people in person and plenty of spots online! If you would like to be in person and we appear sold out, please contact us.
About aoi.Taiko - aoi Taiko is a mother–daughter taiko unit based in Richmond. Seith Hwang,
Sonna Hwang, &Yumi Hwang have been walking with taiko since 2012, and in 2024 formed aoi Taiko to share this ancient instrument practice beyond performance—into a space of listening, remembering, and healing. Taiko is more than music—it’s frequency, movement, and energy work.
