Every bowl is one of a kind
Every Crystal Tones bowl is different, even two bowls with the same size and note. Each one has its own tuning, its own alchemy and its own personality when you play it.
That's what makes designing a set fun, and it's also why it takes a trained ear. Some bowls sound amazing together and some just don't, even when they look like a perfect match on paper. Mary-Lynne listens for how the bowls blend, keeps the tuning close across the whole set, and spreads out the notes so you have deep bowls and bright ones.
How a consult works
First we talk about what you want the bowls for. Maybe it's your own practice at home, maybe you play soundbaths for clients, or maybe there's one bowl on our website you keep going back to. If you already have bowls or other instruments, bring the sizes and notes (or bring the bowls, if you're coming in person). Then we start playing, one bowl at a time and then together, so you can hear them side by side.
Our rule in every consult: you should fall in love, and you should also walk away with a bowl that works. These consults are for people who are ready to choose their bowls. Most people find their first bowl or two in an hour, and we can go longer when you're choosing more.

Mary-Lynne Williams founded Buffalo Firefly in Richmond and opened our NYC showroom in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, which holds one of the largest collections of Crystal Tones® Alchemy singing bowls anywhere. She spent two decades as a product design leader at Microsoft, Meta and Zillow before this work, and she teaches our Level 1 Sound Training.
